Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How much does it cost?

As you might suspect, the answer to "how much does it cost?" is "it depends." Your annual financial planning fee is determined by the level and scope of the service we provide. As a starting point, a typical annual financial planning fee is $700-$900 for singles and $900-$1200 for couples. We also have several payment plan options available and we do not collect our fee until your financial analysis is delivered.

  2. Why will working with a financial adviser help me?

In addition to assistance you might expect - spending plan organization, portfolio and investment review, insurance needs analysis, retirement guidance, and our financial expertise, we teach you to ask the most important question you should ask when discussing your finances -"Why." Once you understand "why" we are doing what we are doing, that is when the excitement begins. When someone asks you for example, "why are you investing in a Roth IRA this year", the answer should not be "because a financial guy said so". Your answer should be "because my Roth IRA provides tax deferred growth that I can access tax-free in retirement". "Why" makes it all happen.

  3. How do I get started?

The first step is to do what you are doing right now, researching resources to help you. The next step in getting financial help is discovering for yourself who you are most comfortable with being your guide. Burge Financial offers a complimentary, no-obligation Initial Meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss your goals and what you are looking for in a financial adviser, lay out what we do as financial experts, and to decide if working together makes sense.

  4. What is expected of me as a client?

As a client, you are expected to be an active participant in the financial planning process. After all, it is *your* money and *your* goals we are excited about! You will be expected to gather financial information and be open to making changes so we can help you to help yourself.

  5. What do I get for my Annual Planning fee?

Again, the answer here also is "it depends" on the scope of service you are paying for. As a starting point, a typical annual planning fee covers two face to face 90 minute semi-annual meetings, two 30 minute quarterly phone call meetings, and your personal comprehensive financial plan covering the 7 areas of financial planning. In addition, it is also understood that life events do happen (job change, marriage, etc). If we need to meet to discuss a major even - we meet and at no additional charge. Your annual planning fee covers all contact and analysis for the year.
